About us Why we exist Reproducibility is core to the scientific method. To have confidence in a result, we should be able to run the same experiment, in the same way, and find the same thing. Over the past decade, it has become clear that a huge proportion of scientific results cannot be reproduced, casting doubt on what we think we know, and slowing scientific progress. We believe that this reproducibility crisis is partly a symptom of a deeper issue. There is no standardised, structured and complete record of how experiments are done. Across swathes of private and public research it’s often not possible to figure out how an experiment has been run. Imagine trying to reuse someone else’s code that is only 10% complete — it’d be easier to start from scratch. What we do We’re building software to help scientists capture, share and collaborate on their experimental methods – we think about it like "GitHub for experimental science". We’re starting with tools that actually help scientists design their experiments, freeing up headspace to focus on the question they are trying to answer. About you What you’ll do You’ll be joining Briefly on the ground floor as our first employee. You’ll work with us on all sorts across the business, but primarily you’ll be focused on our early product iterations, Designing beautiful and delightful features that scientists love to use to plan their experiments, Implementing these features, with a focus on front end, Testing them with scientists, collecting their feedback, understanding it, and coming up with the next iteration. In this role, you’ll need to develop understanding and empathy for scientists and the problems they face – to build tools they love, while ensuring this software moves us closer to greater reproducibility in science. You have... Experience in front-end development. An eye for good product design – you care about how a product looks and feels and you know what good looks like. A user-first mindset – you know how to translate users’ problems and requests into great software solutions. You are... Adaptable – you can figure out tasks that you’ve never done before and you can deal with significant ambiguity. Thoughtful – you can figure out when it's the right time to go deep on a problem, and when to take a shortcut. Independent – you’re happy Googling / ChatGPTing (is that a verb yet?) your way around your problems. Self-aware - you actively self-reflect on situations where you’ve excelled and others where you could do better. Kind – you help others without expecting anything in return You might have... Experience in product design. Experience / knowledge of the wet lab workflow. Worked on products with a focus on delighting the user. Experience at an early stage startup.
